Potassium Nitrate
Potassium Nitrate is a water-soluble fertilizer supplying both potassium and nitrogen to plants. It improves root development, crop quality, and stress resistance. With high purity and quick absorption, it supports efficient fertigation and foliar applications, making it ideal for high-value crops and modern agricultural practices.
Description
Potassium Nitrate (KNO3) Supplier — Premium NK Fertilizer for High-Value Crops & Fertigation Systems
Potassium Nitrate (KNO3), commonly referred to as NOP (Nitrate of Potash), is a fully soluble, chloride-free NK fertilizer that delivers two of the three primary macronutrients — nitrogen (13% as nitrate-N) and potassium (46% as K2O) — in a single application. This unique combination makes it the preferred nutrient source for high-value horticultural and greenhouse crops where chloride sensitivity, nitrate-ammonium balance, and rapid nutrient availability are critical performance parameters. Unlike potassium chloride (MOP), which introduces chloride ions that can be detrimental to salt-sensitive crops, potassium nitrate supplies potassium without any accompanying chloride, making it the standard NK source for tobacco, potato, tomato, grape, and strawberry production systems worldwide. Davar ChemTech supplies agricultural-grade potassium nitrate in prilled and crystalline forms with guaranteed purity, full solubility verification, and compliance with international fertilizer quality standards.
Key Technical Features
- Dual nutrient delivery: 13% N (100% nitrate form) + 46% K2O in a single, fully water-soluble product
- Zero chloride content — eliminates chloride-induced yield loss and quality degradation in sensitive crops
- High solubility (316 g/L at 20 °C) enabling direct use in fertigation, hydroponic, and foliar spray systems
- Nitrate nitrogen promotes rapid uptake and immediate crop response without requiring soil microbial conversion
- Low salt index minimizes osmotic stress compared to potassium chloride at equivalent K2O application rates
- Available in prilled (field application) and crystalline (fertigation) forms to match different application methods
Industrial Applications
| Industry | Reason for Use |
| Greenhouse & Protected Cultivation | Premium NK source for soilless growing media, hydroponic nutrient solutions, and drip fertigation in greenhouse vegetables and flowers |
| Fruit Crops (Grapes, Banana, Citrus) | Supplies potassium for fruit size, sugar accumulation (Brix), and color development; nitrate nitrogen supports canopy growth without excess vegetative vigour |
| Vegetable Crops (Tomato, Potato, Onion) | Chloride-free potassium prevents quality defects like sugar-end in potato and hollow heart in tomato; nitrate form enhances calcium uptake reducing blossom-end rot |
| Tobacco Farming | Preferred potassium source for flue-cured and burley tobacco — chloride-free K ensures proper leaf curing, burn quality, and nicotine content |
In greenhouse and hydroponic production systems, potassium nitrate is the benchmark NK fertilizer due to its complete solubility and absence of impurities that can clog drip emitters or destabilize nutrient solution chemistry. The nitrate form of nitrogen is immediately available for plant uptake without requiring nitrification by soil bacteria, which is particularly advantageous in cold growing conditions or sterile hydroponic media where microbial activity is limited. For fruit crops, the potassium component plays a critical role in fruit quality — potassium drives sugar translocation from leaves to fruit, enhances anthocyanin and carotenoid development for color, and improves fruit firmness and post-harvest shelf life. In grape production, potassium nitrate applied at veraison (colour change stage) consistently improves Brix levels and berry uniformity compared to potassium chloride. Potato farmers specifically choose potassium nitrate over potassium chloride because chloride reduces specific gravity (dry matter content) and increases reducing sugars — both detrimental to fry colour in processing potatoes. In tobacco cultivation, even modest chloride uptake affects leaf curing quality and burning characteristics; potassium nitrate is therefore the industry-standard potassium source, with recommended application rates of 100–200 kg/ha split across the growing season to maintain optimal leaf potassium levels without inducing nitrogen excess.

Storage, Handling & Safety
Potassium nitrate is a strong oxidizer (Class 5.1) and requires specific handling and storage precautions. Store separately from combustible materials, organic substances, reducing agents, and strong acids — contact with these substances can cause fire or explosion. Keep in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Store in original HDPE packaging on pallets; never stack directly on concrete. While not highly toxic, ingestion of large quantities can cause gastrointestinal distress. Wear gloves and avoid creating dust clouds during handling. For fire situations involving potassium nitrate, use copious water spray — do NOT use dry chemical or CO2 extinguishers as potassium nitrate supplies its own oxygen. Transport under IMDG Class 5.1 with proper UN classification and labeling.
Supply Capability & Distribution Strength
Davar ChemTech supplies potassium nitrate to progressive farmers, greenhouse operators, and agri-input distributors across India’s high-value crop zones — including grape-growing districts of Maharashtra (Nashik, Sangli), greenhouse clusters in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, potato-growing regions of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, and tobacco belts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. From our Vadodara distribution center, we dispatch bagged and bulk consignments with standard lead times of 3–5 working days for western India and 5–8 working days for other regions. Solubility certificates and heavy metal analysis reports are available on request.
