Rubber Accelerators
Rubber Accelerators are essential additives used to speed up the vulcanization process in rubber manufacturing. They improve curing efficiency, mechanical strength, and elasticity. With controlled reaction rates and consistency, they enhance production speed and final product performance in tires, footwear, and industrial rubber goods.
Description
Rubber Accelerators Supplier — MBTS, CBS, TMTD & TZ for Vulcanization Optimization
Rubber accelerators are the unsung heroes of vulcanization chemistry — specialized organic compounds that dramatically reduce cure times, improve crosslink density, and enable precise tuning of rubber physical properties. Without accelerators, sulfur vulcanization of natural and synthetic rubbers would require prohibitively long curing cycles at very high temperatures, rendering modern high-speed tire manufacturing and automated rubber goods production impossible. The choice of accelerator system — whether a primary accelerator like CBS (N-cyclohexyl-2-benzothiazole sulfenamide) for delayed action or a secondary ultra-accelerator like TMTD (tetramethylthiuram disulfide) for rapid cure boost — directly determines scorch safety, reversion resistance, and the balance between modulus and elongation in the finished rubber article. Davar ChemTech supplies a comprehensive portfolio of rubber accelerators covering sulfenamides, thiazoles, thiurams, and dithiocarbamates, all produced under controlled conditions with full analytical data support.
Key Technical Features
- CBS (CZ) grade with 96–98% purity for delayed-action curing in tire tread and carcass compounds

- Comprehensive technical data sheets with recommended dosage ranges and compatibility guidelines for each grade
Industrial Applications
| Industry | Reason for Use |
| Tire Manufacturing | Sulfenamide accelerators (CBS, TBBS) provide delayed-action curing essential for deep-section tire tread and carcass molding |
| Automotive Parts | Thiazole and thiuram accelerators optimize cure profiles for engine mounts, bushings, and vibration isolators |
| Footwear Industry | Fast-curing accelerator blends enable high-cycle molding of rubber soles and heel components |
| Industrial Rubber Products | Dithiocarbamate accelerators provide rapid cure for conveyor belt skim coats, hoses, and rubber sheets |
The tire industry is the largest consumer of rubber accelerators by volume, and the choice of accelerator system is one of the most critical formulation decisions a tire compounder makes. Sulfenamide accelerators such as CBS offer excellent scorch delay — the compound remains processable during mixing, extrusion, and calendering, then cures rapidly once mold temperature is reached. This processing safety window is essential for thick tire components where premature crosslinking (scorch) would cause surface defects and internal porosity. In automotive rubber-to-metal bonded parts such as engine mounts and bushings, thiuram accelerators like TMTD are often used in combination with sulfur-donor systems to achieve high crosslink density without excessive sulfur bloom on the surface. The footwear sector demands ultra-fast cure cycles to maximize molding throughput — here, combinations of ZMBT and ZDEC deliver green strength development and rapid vulcanization in 3–5 minute cycles. For industrial rubber goods such as conveyor belts and expansion joints, accelerator selection is driven by the need for reversion resistance (especially in NR-rich compounds) and compatibility with antioxidant and antiozonant systems.

Storage, Handling & Safety
Rubber accelerators contain active sulfur groups and must be handled with appropriate chemical precautions. Wear nitrile gloves, chemical safety goggles, and a dust mask or respirator when handling powder forms. Some accelerator grades may cause skin sensitization with repeated contact — wash thoroughly after handling. Store in a cool, dry location away from strong acids, alkalis, and oxidizing agents. Keep containers tightly sealed to prevent moisture absorption and caking. Accordling to GHS classification, several accelerator grades may carry skin sensitization and environmental hazard labels — consult individual SDS documents before handling. Spills should be swept up carefully to avoid dust generation.
